Notes:

For Mac users, RIGHT-ALT is either of the Option Keys

  • There are several types of accents in the Heiltsuk orthography.
    • The GRAVE key is the low-dot mark, as in ṃ
    • The SHIFT+GRAVE key is the glottalised low-dot mark, as in ṃ̓
    • The APOSTROPHE key is for the glottalisation mark, as in a̓
    • The SLASH key is the acute accent, as in á
    • The SHIFT+SLASH key is the acute low-dot accent, as in ṃ́
  • The EQUALS key is the háček accent, as in č š x̌. Alternatively, by using the RIGHT-ALT key, these accented letters can be typed: RIGHT-ALT+g is ǧ, RIGHT-ALT+X is X̌.
  • All the characters which can by typed with the RIGHT-ALT key are show in brackets above.
  • Where a punctuation key has been remapped (e.g. SEMICOLON), the original value can be accessed with the RIGHT-ALT key: RIGHT-ALT+SLASH is /
  • Opening and closing quotes:
    • single: ‘ SHIFT+BACKSLASH — ’ SHIFT+COMMA
    • double: “ SHIFT+HYPHEN — ” SHIFT+EQUALS
    • single ‹ RIGHT-ALT+SHIFT+9 — › RIGHT-ALT+SHIFT+0
